Don’t have long? Here are the highlights:

  • We want to support The London Academy of Excellence Tottenham (LAET) to expand the educational opportunities they are able to offer and allow talented students to take their passion for the creative arts further. LAET is looking to establish Music and Drama A level and deepen the co-curricular provision in this area.
  • The unique partnership between Highgate and LAET creates the opportunity for pupils to meet other young people from all walks of life, share their experiences and form lasting friendships.
  • These partnerships can change students’ lives. For example, Aris and Brianna met when Brianna came to Highgate to study Music. They have been friends ever since and are now at university together, writing award-winning songs!
  • Your gift could be the thing that ignites a shared passion, creates a lasting friendship and unites these different parts of Haringey.

In the six years since LAE Tottenham opened, the hundreds of students that have passed through its doors have achieved remarkable things. Their accomplishments are even more notable considering the circumstances affecting all students in recent years, compounded by the fact that the Northumberland Park ward of Tottenham, where the school is situated, is amongst the 2% most deprived wards in the country. 51% of students at LAE Tottenham are eligible for Free School Meals and before the school opened, just 1% of school leavers in the east of Haringey left for a Russell Group university.

75% of the Class of 2022 achieved places at Russell Group universities - with 10 going to Oxford or Cambridge - and their achievements would not have been possible without support from volunteers and donors.

Beyond the students’ achievements, though, we are so proud to have built deeply woven links between Highgate and LAET. The two communities work closely together to embed a sense of unity amongst the two schools. The experience of students across the partnership is enhanced through shared experiences – showing that shared interests and passions and a diversity of life experience is what should bring people together, rather than where someone happens to have been born.

Aris’ and Brianna’s story illustrates how powerful these partnerships can be. The two met at the start of Year 12 and have been friends ever since. Brianna, who attended LAET, came to Highgate to study Music and they started to make music together in the first lockdown. They have both gone on to study music at Oxford and in June this year, they won second prize in the Kendrew Songwriting Competition. They have even recently recorded their first few songs at Abbey Road Studios and The Parks Studios!

We want to give talented young people like Brianna the opportunity to take their passion for Music and Drama further at their own school and create more opportunities for students to come together and discover shared passions. Your gift could be the catalyst for lasting friendships between people that may not have otherwise met!

We are aiming to establish Music and Drama A level at LAET in September 2023 and deepen the co-curricular provision in this area at LAET.

We have already seen the potential that Music and Drama have to bring groups of young people together. These shared experiences are made all the better by a diversity of lived experience and formalising this provision at LAET will only increase opportunities for partnerships to flourish.
